The web hit Catboy square in the chest.
Spidey watched his opponent stumble backward three steps and heard Ghost Spider cheering him on. One more shot. Just one more web and this whole thing would be over and he’d be the best. He raised his wrist, fingers positioned in the activation pose.
“Super Cat Speed!”
The blue blur came from nowhere. Spidey’s web sailed through empty air, splattering uselessly against the playground slide. Where’d that guy go? A tap on his shoulder. Spidey spun, but Catboy was already airborne, paws extended, tackling from the side. He knocked them both into the sandbox. Sand in his mouth. Sand in his mask. Spidey rolled left, came up fast. His spider-sense hadn’t even tingled. Did it work on cat heroes? He filed that away for later. Right now he needed distance. He shot a web at the monkey bars and swung up. Height advantage. What Aunt May would call the “high ground” except she meant it about arguing with Uncle Ben, not actual superhero combat.
Catboy landed in the sand below, crouching. “Super Cat Leap!” he shouted as blue energenium covered his legs with its familiar feel. He jumped quickly, making the most of the energenium before it ran out.
